J number of disappointed diggera returned to Wellington from Mahakipawa diggings on Monday. A matter affacticg police administration, which demands immediate investigation if ihe facta were correctly cited, was brought under the Dotica of the Minister for Justice on Wednesday afternoon by Mr Moss. The hon. gentlemen stated that Mrs Davidson, a widow with three children, residing in Auckland, was maliciously charged recently by a late lodger with theft. She was proved to be perfectly innocent, bnt her house wajs searched, and she was imprisoned till bailed out by some friends, who bore r»ady witness to her excellent character. She had been treated with great indignity and roughness by the police, who would not have ventured to thus treat anyone better off or with more powerful friend?. He urged the Minister for Justice to look into the case, and this'Mr Fergus promised to do at ooce.
