LABOR TROUBLES.
Sydney, August 20. The Maritime Labor Council has requested Southern coal owners not to supply the Zcalandia. August 21. A ballot is being taken ot the various Seamen’s Unions through Australasia to decide the following questions ; —(1). Whether there shall be a general s'rike. (2) If the mailers at issue > ohall be settled by arbitration, (3) ■ Whether 1 iho subsidy to the Jubilee 'Company shall be continued. And (4 1 ) whether the Seamen’s Unions shall ; withdraw altogether from the struggle, 'i he local Union have decided to send a further sum to assist the Jubilee {Steamship Company of Auckland, and jtbe Shipowners Association will continue their subsidy to the Northern {Steamship Company. It is believed that pfforts are being made by shipowners and colliery proprietors to amalgamate with capitalists with a view of resisting future undue demands by labor organisations.
The colliery proprietors haye received a conciliatory deputation front the citizens of Newcastle, and the cpalmasters have agreed (o open negotiations with the men, if the latter will withdraw the resolutions of which they gays notice. The deputation hope to be ab’e to induce the men to adept the conditions imposed by the masters, and the latter have handed to the deputation s-aled pro posals for an agreement, which are not to bo opened till ‘ the men comply with (he stipulation of the masters.
