The Emperor William, on j unveiling the statue. ,of .Frederick Charles of Germany . said,, that eighteen corps and forty-two millions of people would prefer to die in battle rather than surrender Alsace. Frankfort, August 19. The Emperor William is, now on a visit to this city. In the , course of an address he said that the present relations between Germany and Ff*nce gave cause for uneasiness. He denied that his father had ever been favorjable to the surrender of Alsace and Lorraine to France; The attitude of the French papers is pacific, and they repudiate any idsa of attacking Germany at present. Overtures have been made by the Danish Government for an alliance with Germany, the basis of which should be the cession of tbo northern portion of tfie province of Scbeiswig Holstein to Denmark. Prince Bismarck refuses to entertain the proposal.
