The Head Master’s report for the past month was read as follows: — “ Sir,—l have the honor to submit the following report for the month of July:—Weekly average roll—Boys, 187.6; girls, 152; total, 339.6. Average attendance —Boys, 114.6 • girls. 94.5; total, 209.2. Highest attendance—Boys, 164; girls, 182; total, 296. “ The low average was caused by the heavy rains, which deterred the majority of the pupils from attending school. On Tuesday, 10th July, the day of re-opening, there were only 39 pupils present, and of these two absented themselves in the afternoon, when we had only 87. On three occasions. afterwards we bad 64, 65, and 44 respectively; while on eight occasions altogether we had less than one-half of the roll number. Thrice besides the attendance was 5,2.5, and 2.5 above the half. “The Inspector paid his annual inspection visit on Tuesday and Wednesday last. “ I enclose cheque for £3 13s 7d, being amount of stationery fees received up to date. “ A fresh supply of notepaper and envelopes is required. “ I append report of attendance of those pupils whose names have been previously before the Committee. —I have, etc., # .« rrr r»_ «•
" W. JSRXARH." Some conversation ensued regarding the amount of stationery, pencils, etc., used in the school, but no resolution was passed on the subject, The opinion was expressed that a saving in .pencils might be effected if the i same were collected after lessons, and a suggestion was made that a certain number of pencils, etc., should be supplied to each child per quarter. It was resolved to order the stationery, •tc:,.required« In reference to those pupils who were still attending irregularly, it was decided that the Chairman should give >. their names to the police, so that farther enquiries as to reason for absence could,be made. 5 ‘ ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £l2 6s 7d were passed for payment. BHOETHESS OP FUNIS. Eunds being very low, a discussion took place as to ways and means. ... The amount supplied to the Comraittee by the Board of Education; for incidentals, fuel, repairs, etc., is'not nearly sufficient,, and the opinion was expressed that many parents of pupils attending the school who could afford . • to contribute to the fond for fuel and "stationery did, not do so. Members spoke very strongly on the subject, -land it was decided to request the Bead Master to supply the Committee with a list of those who did not contribute to the fund, and the amoimt in arrear. The hope was expressed that those parents who did not now contribute to the fund (and whose children were receiving the ■ benefit of free pencils, pens, stationery, etc.) would in future send the small amount required each quarter. The . amount in arrear at the present time for this year is £9 15s 3d. VISITORS. The visitor being absent, no report for the past month was received, Mr A. B>. Allan was appointed visitor for . the ensuing month. This being all the business the meeting terminated.
