ALLEGED CATTLE STEALING.

On Tuesday morning quite a sensation was caused in Oxford by the reported stealing of seven head of fat cattle from a herd of twenty-six belonging to Sir Wilson Fisher, East Oxford. They were in a securely fenced paddock; and were seen to be all right on Monday ■■ evening. On Tuesday morning a gate and slip-, panel had been opened* and seven head driven out on to the road. They - were traced to the road past Henderson’s at the ABblby • ;Gorge, and towards" the Ashley Riverbed. In consequence of information received, Sergeant Barlow at Rabgiora took possession of seven head t of cattle at the saleyards entered by Mr George Gowle, who has borne the reputation of being a respectable farmer at Oxford: The cattle, it is stated, answered to the description Of those lost in respect of colors, and a punch hole in the ears. Gowle drove the animals into the market down the main road about 9 a.m., and placed them for sale in the yards. He was arrested, and during the afternoon brought before C. Whitefoord, Esq., KM. Sergeant Barlow applied for a remand. The accused denied the charge, but gave no explanation regarding the cattle. He was remanded on bail, two sureties of £IOO each, to appear next Tuesday. Messrs d. (/Halleron and H. Blackett found the bail, .During the evening Mr Fisher arrived from Oxford and identified the cattle as those which he alleges to have been stolen.
