With reference to the disappearance of Gaspirini, Mr Jellicoe received the following telegram from , Stephens, Lawrence and Jacques, solicitors, of Sydney, to whom he had cabled instructions to take proceedings for the release of Qasparini or the arrival of the vessel at that port “ Met Wakatipn. Gasparini nowhere to be found. Jumped overboard or secreted. Will report.” In the Supreme Court, Invercargill, on Friday, Gideon F. ‘ Dejouz, late Town Clerk of Invercargill, was foun j guilty bu one of the two charges of embezzlement of rates. The Government Auditor deposed that the defalcations of the accused amounted to £I3OO. The jury recom-; mended him to mercy on the ground that the annual audits bad been very. lax. Sentence was def-rred.
