OHRISTCHWROH CORN EXCHANGE. The Corn Exchange reports for the vfiek ending Friday evening, the 17th ins'. : The firmness noted during the past few weeks in the London wheat market has been fully maintained, as advised by cable, and locally there has been a good inquiry at the advanced values. Freights continue scarce, all available having been secured at current rates. Wheat —Prime tuscan still commands Ihe top rate, 2s lid to 2s being paid for prime lines, even money being obtainable for large ex store parcels. Pearl is readily competed for locally among millers at 2s lid; hunters is worth 2s9£dto 2s lOd for good samples; chicken wheat has also hardened a little, 2s 4d to 2s 6d is given for whole wheat, and Is lid to 2s 3d for broken. Oats are not going away bo brisk as might be anticipated, although no great quantity are on offer. Milling command 2s to 2s Id; short feed, Is lid to 2s; danish and sparrowbills, Is 9d to Is lOd. Barley —Little business is being transacted except for small seed lines, which command up to 4s 3d; malting prices are unaltered. Beans are in fair demand at 2s 5d to 2s 6d. Peas are quiet at 2s 3d to 2s 4d for seed, and 2s 6d for prussian blues. By egrass—Small orders are coming in freely, sales being made up to 3s for extra prime machine dressed; farmers' parcels, however, are dull at 2s to 2s Id. Cocksfoot remains quiet at last week's quotations. Potatoes are still firm at 45s to 47s 6d. Dairy Produce —Butter has advanced, sales having been made at lid for new well pottedlines; inferior, however, is very dull at 4d to 7d. Cheese: small sizes vary in price from 3d to 3|d. The above prices are those paid to farmers, and delivered f.o.b. Lyttelton, sacks extra.

OHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS,

At the Addington yards on Wednesday there were moderate entries of both sheep and cattle. Fat Cattle—Values slightly improved. Prime steers sold at from £6 5s to £9 5s per head; heifers, prime heavy, £5 to £8; cows and heifers, light weights and inferior, £3 12s 6d to £4 15s, being at from 15s to about 20s per 1001 b, according to quality. Fat Sheep—The primest crossbred wethers sold at from 15s to 17s 6d, some extra heavy weights reaching 19s; medium weight wethers at from lis to 13s 6d; crossbred ewes from 10s to 14s 3d; merino wethers at from 9s 6d to 13s 6d; feeing from to 3d per lb for best, and about 2|d for medium quality mutton.—The National Mortgage Company sold for Mr W. Ackroyd, 60 maiden crossbred ewes at 16s 3d to 16s 6d; for Mr J. G. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS,

The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday .• Wheat —The favorable turn in the value of this cereal at Home has influenced this market to a slight extent, and bujerß are now quietly increasing their stocks, evidently persuaded that they cannot do better by further delay. Several lines of the best Northern wheats have been placed, during the week, and at enhanced values. Present quotations are—For tuscan, 3s 3£d to 3s sd; other prime sorts, such as velvet and red straw, 3s Id to 3a 3J; medium, nominal, 2s 5d to 2s 9d; whole fowls' wheat la in improved demand at 2s 4d to 2s 6d; inferior and broken, 2s to 2s 3d (ex store, sacks weighed.in). Oats—The market is quieter, with less demand. Quotations are —For prime milling, Is ll£d to 2s; short bright feed, Is lOd to Is lid; medium and discolored, Is 9d to Is lOd; danish and long tartars (fit for seed) in small lota, Is lOd to 2s 3d; black (slow sale), Is lid to 2s (ex store, sacks weighed in). Barley—There is very little business passing in malting. Prime bright samples only are saleable. Quotations are—F»r prime malting, 4s to 48 3d, extra choice a shade more; medium (only saleable for milling), 3s to 3s 3d; feed, Is 9d to 2s 3d (ex ston-), Grass Seed—Business in ryegrass is limited. We qtaote machine-dressed at 2s 6d to 3s; undressed, Is 9d to 2s 3d (ex store, sacks extra). Cocksfeot does not sell freely. Late quotations are unaltered—viz , 3f d to 4|d per lb Potatoes Prices are easier. At auction during the week prices ranged from 75s to 82s 6d per ton. Butter—The market is over-sup-plied with inferior and second-rate quality, which is almost unsaleable, while prime is scarce and hardly any coming to hand; 9£d to lOd could still be obtained for such. Cheese of prime quality is also scarce, but medium is more plentiful, selling at 3d to 4d per lb, according to quality.

Pigs—Well fed, up to 1801 b, 4£d Hams and bacon: Former, 8d to 9d ; rolls and flitches, 6|d to 7d per lb. Chaff—Oaten, 55s to 60s; wheaten, green cut, 45a; straw do, 40s. Carrots, 30s; turnips, IBs; blackdust, 9d; meal seed, £3. Straw—Oaten and wheaten, 40s Hay: Oaten, 60s; clover and ryegrass, 60s. Honey— Best extracted, 4?d to 4|d (kegs extra) ; drained, 3:fdSheepskins—On Monday country dry crossbreds, low to medium, brought Is 4d to 3s 8d; do do merino, Is 2d to 2s 9d; medium to full-woolled crossbreds, 3s lOd to 5s 3d ; do do merino, 3s to 4s 7d ; dry pelts, 2d to lOd;: butchers' green crossbreds, best, 4s iOd to 4s 3d; others, 4s to 3s 7d; green merinos, 2s lOd to 3s 2d. Hides—Quotations are—For heavy weights, 3£d to 3|-d ; medium, 3id to 2U ; light, 2|d to 2£d ; inferior, 2d to per lb. Tallow—Quotations are—For prime rendered mutton, 17s 6d to 18s 6d; medium to good, 15s 6d to 17s; inferior and mixed, 13s to 14s 6d. Eough fat is in better demand and firmer—for inferior, 8s to 9s; medium to good, 9s 6d to lis 6d ; beat, 12s to 13s per cwt.

DUNEDIN STOCK MARKETS.

At the Burnsiife Yards on Wednesday the following business was transacted : Fat Cattle—2l4 head were yarded for this week's sales, representing all qualities. Prices slightly fell. Best bullocks brought £8 to £lO 10s; medium, £5 5s to £7; others, £4 to £5; cows, from £3 5s to £9 ss. Pat Calves—Four sold at from 22s Gd to 16s. Fat Sheep—32s4 were penned. Prices on the whole receded Is to Is 6d per head from last week's. Best crossbred wethers, 12s 9d to 15s 9d ; ordinary, 10s to 12s; best do ewes, 12s to 13s Gd, one or two extra heavy pens 14s 6d to 15s 61 ; ordinary, 9s 3d to Its 6d ; merino wethers, 6s 9d to Us 9d. Fat Lambs—233 were penned. These realised from 8s to 9s 6d. Pigs—ll 4 were penned. Suckers 6s Gd to 10s 6d; light stores, 12s to 15s 6d ; others up to 22s 6d ; porkers, 29s to 32s ; baconers, 34s 6d to 645. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney, August 16. The potato market is easy—New Zealand, 67b 6d to 70s; Circular Heads, 70s ; Warrnambools, 555. Onions—New Zealand, £6 to £7; Victorian, £B. Maize is steady -at 2s Bd. Oats—Stocks are accumulating, and the demand falling; heavy milling, 2s 6d ; heavy feed, 2s 3d to 2s 4|d ; off sorts, 2s. Bran is dull at 9fd. Pollard, New Zealand, 9fd to lOd. Wheat —Best New Zealand milling, 3» 3d to 3s 4d; chick, 2s 8d to 2s lOd. Butter, locally-made, is easy at Is 6d to Is 9d ; best imported, easy at Is 3d to Is sd. Cheese is steady at 6|d to 7d. Bacon is firmer; locally cured, 6£-d to 7d; New Zealand cured is dull at 8d to 9d. New Zealand hams, Is to Is l£d. Melboubne, August 16. Wheot, 3s s£d. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, received the following cable message from their London office on the 16th inst. : Wheat—The market is steadier, and the weather is more favorable for the crop herd. The French market ia deficient both in quantity and quality, and Adelaide wheat f.aq. is readily saleable to arrive in France. Adelaide wheat is worth 37s per 496!b5, and to arrive f.a.q. is worth the same figure per 480.b5. Victorian wheat is worth 36s |ier49olbs. New Zealand wheats, average and long-berried, are worth respectively 35a Gd to 36s 9d per 4961b5, and f.a.q. to arrive is worth 34* Gd per 4Solbs. Tallow—The market is steady. Good beef and mutton tallows are worth respectively 23* 3d to 25s 3d per cwt. Leather—Market easier, Best sides are worth 10yd per lb. Frozen Mutton—The market continues steady.
