Sydney, August 12. The miners at Newcastle hare been unable to come to terms with the managers, and have given notice that after 14 days from Moadaj they will go out on strike. Tbe Labour Council and affiliated bodies have resolved to take a vote of members as (o whether it is advisable that there should be a general strike throughout the colonies re the Northern Steamship Company question. The Maritime Labour Council have fixed Sept, 12 as the date when all vessels employing Asiatics must replace them with European crews, otherwise the Council will pursue similar tactics to those adopted in the case of the mail Bteamer Mariposa, Melbourne, August 12. There is great consternation in the city at the threatened miners' strike at Newcastle, as there is only about a week'* supply of coal io Melbourne, London, August 11. The chain makers of Staffordshire and Worcestershire have struck for higher wages. It is alleged they are at present paid starvation wages; that great distress prevails, and miny are absolutely in want of iood. Mr R. C. (jraham, M.P. for Lanark, who has visited the district, describes the condition of the people as deplorable. lie is of opinion that un'ess something is done to ameliorate their distressful condition, the ppace of the country will ba menaced.
