Tho House of Commons have agreed to tha amendments mide by the House of Lords in the Local Government Bill. Mr H. 'Matthews, Home Secretory, has promised to make inquiries into the work-ng of the First Offenders Act adopted by the New Zealand Parliament, with a view to. a similar measure being introduced into the Imperial Par'iament. In the House of Lords the Purnell Commission Bill has been read a second time, and committed pro forma.
