AUCTIONEERS' REPORT. TIMAIUJ. Messrs Gracie, Maclean and Adam report for the fortnight ending Saturday »s follows: Horses—At the Timaru Horse Bazaar on the 4th inst., our entry comprised 38 head. Of these only a small proportion were medium draughts, with a few serviceable hacks. The remainder were aged draughts and weedy hacks. We disposed of 19 head aa under. To-day, owing to the wet weather and flooded state of the country only about half a-dozeD horses were entered. We quote medium to good draughts at from £ls to £2O 10s, inferior £8 to £l2, hacks (ordinary sorts) up to £ll. Sheep—At Pleasant Point monthly sale on the 6th inßt., about 1000 were entered. Of these we sold 150 crossbred wethers at 13s 3d, 75 2-tootb crossbred ewes at 9s 9d, and privately 384 crossbred hoggets—At Washdyke on tbe 2nd inst., aud again on the 9th, the wet and stormy weather prevailing prevented owners sending .«heep from a distance, and consequently both markets were the smallest at these yards for some time back. We sold 120 fat ewes at lis, 30 do. at 9s lOd, 35 ewes (small) at 7s lOd, 150 crossbred hoggets at 6s. Cattle —At Pleasant Point there was an average entry of fat and stores and a fair number of each sold.—At Washdyke on both,days entries were small. We sold 12 head of bullocks and cows at from £6 15s to Jb7 10s, 3 cows at £5, 22 head calves and yearlings at from 14s to 255, dry cows from 25s to 42s 6d, calving cows £3 10s to £5 ss, and privately 12 prime fat bullocks. Skins —At our regular sale on Wednesday thare was a full attendance of buyers, and prices obtained were considerably over late rates. Butchers' crossbreds sold at from 4s 6d to 5s 6d, country skins from 2s 6d to 4s 61.
ENGLWH MARKETS
London, August 9. Thirteen thousand quarters of wheat now shipping at Melbourne have been sold at 35a 9d. Aug. 10. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom ia 1,988,000 quarters, and for the Continent 352,000 quarters. The American visible supply of wheat is 23,000,000. # Aug. 11. The wheat market continues to improve, and this week shows a considerable advance in prices. Ex warehouse realise 37s to 37s Gd, and New Zealand long-berried is quoted at the same price. Off coast cargoes are fetching from 35s 6d to 365. Tallow, best mutton, is quoted at 25s Gd to 265, best beef 23s 6d to 24-s. The stock on hand is 17,000 casks.
