Henry Livingston, Provincial Auditor, Dunedin, was found dead in? his bed at Dunedin yesterday morning. It has been decided to send a. rifle to Victoria, and efforts will be' made to send an Otago team, to be chosen by competition, A firo occurred at Nelson CreekJ eighteen miles from G-reymoutb, on Saturday, and totally destroyed Olanghrey's Hotel, Jamieson'a grocery Btore, and two private dwellings. Herner's store and O'Brien's house were greatly damaged. The loss is estimated at about £2OOO. Insurances are not known. It was rumoured in Christchurch yesterday that an endeavour is to be made to obtain an injunction of the Supreme Court restraining the City Council from taking a poll of the ratepayers on the proposal to raise a loan for new gasworks, on the grounds set forth in Captain Garsia's protest against the recent public meeting, that the proceedings of Council are contrary to clause 369 of the Municipal Corporations Act.
