LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. On Fiiday, The Lands Act Amendment Bill and tiie Mining Act 1886 Amendment Bill were considered in Oommittee, and reprrtad with amendments. Tne Aitorney-Gjneral moved the second reading of the Married Women’s Properly Extension Bill.—Lost by 9 to 12.

The total vote of £158,666 was passed unaltered, though attempts were made to cut down the Police vote of £6OOO for extra lone service pay, Claes 10—Linds, £46,183. Passed without alteration. On Friday, Replying to questions, it was stated that the erection of a rabbit-proof fence on Mr Mi lat’s run in tlie Waitaki disivict bad baen authorised by the Minister of Lands at a coat £650 ; that the reason why u ptomise was made in May last that grain should be charged by aerial weight on the railways was in order that farmers might be made acquainted with the proposed change before next session ; that copies of “ The Manual of Grasses and Plants Useful to New Zealand " would be sent to connTy libraries and institutes. The Premier moved that the ILuse at its rising adjourn Hit Monday nt half-past two o’clock for Government business.— Agreed to. The motion for going into Committee of Supply was carried by 64 to 10, and the amendment was lust. The House then went into Committee of Supply. Postal arid Te'egraph Depirtmeat—The yote passed without amendment. CLsa 6—Cnstoms and Marine Departments. Customs offices and services, £33,000; and Marine and Harbors, £20,271. Passed. Miscellaneous- £7550. The item £4BOO working expenses of the Stella, was reduced by £l5O, as an indication to Government that the salaries of the officers should he reduejd. The remainder of the vote passed unaltered. Class 3- Colonial Treasurer’s Department. The vote passed unaltered. Class 7—Stamps and deeds, £24,911. Passed.
