TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above Board was held last evening. PreBent.— Messrs K. F. Gray (Chairman), Blythi Coira, Mason, and B. Brown. -' MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meetr ihg were read and confirmed. . ;| .. rOKRESPONDENCB. : The following correspondence was read and dealt with : From Town Clerks, Christchurch * and Timaru, in answer to alerter from the Board re appointing fire inspector, and referring them to sections 349 and 350 of the Municipal Corporations •■•Act, 1886. ’ From St. Saviour’s Church Vestry, per Mr Pinckney, re the cutting of . a drain across footpath • in Birkett street, to the annoyance of foot passengers and the - ’Veatry, and asking what steps the jßoard intend taking.—The Clerk intimated that the party who had cut , therein had now filled it in.- ! i| ; ■"Prom the Property Tax Department, enclosing form to be filled in for the, balance of subsidy to the -Board for the year 1887-B.—The Clerk stated that he had attended to the matter. • Prom the same, stating that a * voucher for the sum of £5 8s 7d had • been sent to the Treasury, being balance of subsidy due to the Board. : Prom' Messrs' Sturrock and Stonier, i- enclosing price of road scraper. From the Secretary to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, enclosing ...... names of-persons receiving charitable aid.—There were no local names on ' it, and consequently the Board only ,-. :( read. it. 1 PISE INBPECTOB. ~i v i On. the. motion of Mr Brown, .tpeconded by Mr Coira, it was resolved to request the Fire Brigade to nomin- * 'idewFire Inspector; 1 • - BIBKETT' STBEET, In reference to Mr Pinckney’s letter, it was resolved to write expljlinihg why the. drain had been cut, ' nd as| the person who cut it had
been warned, it was not likely to occur again. EOAI) SCBAPEE. Mr Coira said he thought the roads were not sufficiently metalled for using a scraper yet. Mr Mason did not think there was any use for it, and it was decided not to purchase one at present. BATES. ! On the motion of Mr Mason, seconded by Mr Brown, it was resolved to strike a rate of one half: penny in the £ for the year 1888-89, and that a special meeting be held on the 17th inst. to confirm the same. ESTIMATES. The estimates for the ensuing year were laid on the table, showing the expected receipts to be £5lB 18s 6d, and the proposed expenditure £483 18s 6d, leaving a balance of £34 6s 4d. EESEBVE. It was decided to call for tenders for the lease of Reserve No. 820, 9 acres, near the Temuka river. OVERSEER'S auroßt. The Overseer’s report was read as follows: — “ Gentlemen, —I have the honor to report that since last Board day one man has been employed 23i days cleaning out water-tables, etc. 'Jhe only work that I know of that is really necessary at present is shingling the footpath in the Main Bouth Road from Ewen Road to Cass Street, a distance of about 16 chains, requiring about 50 yards of fine riverbed shingle. I may mention that during the heavy fall of rain lately the storm-water was unable to get away quickly, being regularly blocked up in the park; but, being outside of the town boundary, I don’t know if the Board will go to any expense to have it thoroughly cleaned, as it has nob had anything done to since it was cleaned by the unemployed. “ The balance in the Bank last Board day was £2BB, and, after paying last month’s accounts, amounting to £BO 17s 2d, and including money paid into the credit of the Board from rent of reserves, rates, and auctioneer’s license, there is a balance of £261 8s lOd, —I am, etc., “ G. Dxson.” ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £2O 9a 6rl were passed for payment. ELECTION - . Arrangements were made for holding the biennial election of members in the month of September next, and the Board adjourned.
