PARLIAMENTRY NOTES.

■Wellington July, 30. Mr Verrall, the new member for Ashley, arrived yesterday by the Wanaka, and will be sworn in tomorrow, probably. The Attorney-General and SolicitorGeneral are still engaged in examining the last proposals of the Midland Eailway Company. It is believed that their report will boot a favorable nature, but nothing : is definitely known as yet. A meeting of Native members aud Native chiefs now in town was held this morning, when it was decided to stonewall all the Native Policy Bills, unless the taxation clauses in th* Native Laud Bill are altogether abandoned.

A telegram was received to-day by the Under-Secretary for the Native Department to the effect that everything was still quiet at Whangarei, and that a number of influential chiefs have arrived on the scene of the land dispute. The opposing parties have offered to leave their difference to be finally decided by these chiefs and the Native Minister. The Otago Central Railway resolutions were again under consideration by the Cabinet this morning, but no definite outcome resulted. Ministers meet once more at 2 o’clock, and at 2.30, when the House meets, of some Ministerial statement will be made. I believe it will then be found that Government decline to entertain any proposals concerning the line and that the position will simply revert to seatut quo ante. After reasonable discussion, the impression is that the motion to report progress on the Bill will be carried and the matter thus bo allowed to drop, which will have the effect of killing the Bill this session. —Ashburton Guardiam
