ROLLER SKATING.

The skating rink at Temuka will be open this evening, and the tne at Oeraldioe to-morrow evening. Great interest appears to be taken in the art. Since the opening of the Columbia Eink at Auckland, 2800 pairs of skates have been sold, and the manager has ordered 500 more. A gentleman in Christchurch has invented a contrivance to prevent beginners at skating from falling backwards. It consists of a wooden checkblock connected with the hind axle of the skate. So long as the skater keeps upright he is safe, but as soon as the rollers are about to carry the skater off the equilibrium the block drops down and allows him to straighten up again.
