A BLOCK ON THE RAILWAY.

Dunedin, July 11 The Railway Department does not consider the block at Purakanui of a serious character, and prepared to run the Northern expresa through as usual this morning, but the first train leaving for the North at seven o'clock reporteda heavy slip at the northern end of the Deborah Bay tunnel. This caused an effective block, rendering traffic impossible. Gangs of men were sent but to clear away the muck. It is possible that the express from the North will get through to-night, but this is by no means a certainty. So far as is known the south line is all right. It is raining harder than ever.
