NOVEL FUNERAL CEREMONY.
An elderly and an eccentric preacher in an American town has, we read, hit upon the decidedly novel idea if preaching his own funeral sermon, the day set apart for the ceremony being a Sunday. The worthy minister, who is considered by tho*e who know him to be a highly intelligent man, has requested his son to see that a coffin b« provided for the occasion, which he directs shall be perfectly plain and locked with a padlock. The coffin is to be placed by his side in the church, and the/e, in the presence of his friends and family, who are requested to put on mourning attire, he will relate his life and pay a suitable tribute to his own memory. The news of the novel ceremony has, it is stated, spread, and curiosity being excited it is thought the church where a living man's funeral service is to be performed himself will be too small to contain the congregation, for the preacher i.« much esteemed in this locality. All arrangements tor the accommodation of the Pryss reporters and for Ihe ceremony have been made; and after it is over the preacher will officiate no more, but will retire to his home a' d lead a quiet life until the time comes for him to eccupy the coffin for good.
