AUOnONKKHS' REPORT
I TIMAKU. ! Messrs Grncio, Mnciran and Adam report, for He fortnight ending Saturday is follows : Horses—Our entries for the last two sales have been smaller than usual, and the quantity offering in either of the classes, with very few exceptions, barely up to medium. We have inquiries for first-class young sound draughts for export, while owners who wish to sell need not look for exorbitant prices, while at the same time fair values are being given by buyers. Good hacks find harness horses are still in demand, but when any such come forward the owner invariably overestimates the value. Our sales at auction and privately are —for medium to good draughts, £lB to £27 10s; inferior, £8 to £l3; hackneys and light harness horses, medium, £lO to £L4 ]os ; light and inferior, £4 to £8 10.«. Satcp—At Washdyke on the 28th ult., the yards were well filled, principally with forward stores and freezers. A good demand caused prices to advance a shade over former sale, and resulted in a pretty general clearance. On the sth inst., there was again a fair entry of good stock, all of which, with the exception of one line, changed hands at prices about equal to last week. We sold for various owners —44 fat ewes at lis 9d, 30 wethers at lis lOd, 97 ewes and wethers at lis 3d, 54 hoggets at 9s 4d, 79 ewes at 7s 4d, 131 ewes in lamb at 6s 6d, 80 ewes aud wethers at 13s 4d, 25 fat ewes at 10s Id, 80 do at 10a 3d, 88 do at 9s 6d, and (privately), 500 prime freezers. At Pleasaut Point, on the 2nd inst., a large supply came forward and a considerable amount of business was effected. Keserves, however, in some instances were above the buyers' values. We sold 39 fat ewes at 10s 6d, 23 do at 8s 3d, 141 hoggets at 6s 9d, 65 cull 2-tooths at 6s 9d. Cattle—There has been but little business doing at any of the sales lately in fat cattle, owing to the local trade having supplies on hand in store cattle. The entries ha,ve been very scarce, as also the demand, but we look forward to an improvement in the market for young stores. We sold over 50 head at—for steers, £4 10s; cows O'ry), 20s to 60s; springers and milkers, £3 l<*sto £5 2s 6d ; yearlings, 15s to 25;). Privately we placed 40 head fat bullocks at equal to 17s 6d per 1001 b. Skins—On 'he 27th ult., we held our fortnightly sale and catalogued over 2000 skins. The trade was well represented and competition keen for all lots. Best butchers' fetched 4s 3d to 5s Id, dry country skins, in proportion ; privately we placed 2tfoo. Hides—We have sold 82 at for heavy weights 4d per lb, medium 3d to 3£d, light 2d to 3d. ■ - . ■■»
