Aided in self-defence, and he was acquitted. Hellie Hu'ley, for l-rceny from. the pewii, w*s sentonc d to twehe months _ o'l>r>nnell, for br-aking and entering, received a sentence of ■ wo years. On Tuesday Henry Fuller, for receiving stolen pioperty, was sentencad to three years. Thomas Ewart pleaded guilty to horaeattilingi » nd w " g iven 12 n,olllnß- - PomsroF, alias William Oolliue, was oonvic'ed on two charges of forgery. Sentence was deferred. Oo Wednfaday the bov McMinn found guilty of stealing a ring, was sentenced to t-ix days* imprisonment and a whipping. George Ewart, larceny, was sentenced to three yearP. Six previous convictions are recorded against him of petty larceny. John Pomeroy ilm Collins, forgery, four years. The prisoner was only discharged in May from ferving a sentence for a pinoilar offence. James M«dden, fradulent bnpkrnptcy, was discharged, as the prosecuting counsel, Mr Jellicoe, intimated he did not intend te adduce aDy evidence as the creditors did oot now believe that Madden had any felonious intent. This closed the sessions. At the criminal sessions, J>unerim, on Monday, Andrew Fredericks received three years for forgery. Jolid Taylor and Andrew Reid, for horse-stealing, were convicted aud ordered to come up (or itn'ence when called on. Elizjboih Deans, charged with forgiDg a Post Office withdrawal receipt for £2 5-, was acquitted. Henry Fuller pleaded guilty to receiving stolen properly, and F. A. MoMimi pleaded guilty to larceny ; both were remanded pending the report of the Probation Officer; On Tuesday Rosenberg ■as acquitted for forgery and uttfrng. Iq the case of J mes Hooper, charged with feloniously woundiDg wi'h intent to kill Thomis Block, the jury, after beiLg locked np for two hours, returned a verdict of not guilty of felony, but guilly of wounding. Sentence was deferred. At the Supreme Court, Chris! churc\ on Monday, William FlemiDg, for aisou, was sentenced to 12 monihb' haid labor ; Michael Sheebsn, for larceny from the pirson, 12 months' hard labor; Oeorge Alexander and William Anderson, bmglsry, two years'h»rd labor; John Nimon, Viiiglary, three y3<»rs' penal servitude Charier James Escott, cha-ged with embettlement from the Lyttelton Time* GompiDy, pleaded guilty, i>nd was sentenced to two years' probation, to refund the »mpuDt embtzzled, Bnd to pay the expenses of the prosecution, £3l. The trial .f Henley for shooting at Fe'er at Rollestdn, was fixed for Wednesday. On Tuesday Peter Brown and sßichard Morris Griffiths, charged with stealing wheat froni the Hanbor Board's shed at.Lyttalion, were acquitted.
