A chil.l at Bluespur, Otago, was badly burned through its clothes catching fire. An old lady named Mrs Isabella Rawnsley, who arrived at Lyttelton 37 years ago, died on Saturday. She arrived in the Sir George Pollock. At Skippers, Otago, John Martin, a miner, was burnt to death in his tent. He and his mate (Edwards) procured a gallon of whisky, and drank till both became helpless. Edwards appears to have endeavored to rescue him, but was too drunk to remember what occurred. The Auckland Coursing Club held a meeting at Patatoitoi on Saturday. The All-Aged Stakes was won by Mr W. A. Fenton’s Sailor Boy, Masher Pat being runner-up. Mr Owen’s Blue Cap won the Derby, beating Trident in the final round. Mr Fenton’s Ruby proved victorious in the Oaks, the runner-up being Little Nell.
