RIFLE MATCH.

TIMARTJ NAVALS V. GERALDINE RIFLES.

A rifle match between teams of ten men each from the above corps took plaoe at'the Geraldine range on Tburafday las*. The weather was perfect or shooting, bnt at the commencement of the 300 yards range the sun was right in the men's eyes, which fact probably accounts for the small scores made. The conditions were 260 and 300 yards ranges, >' seven shots at esoh range, Wimbledon targets and scoring. The visitors, under Petty Officer L»n«, arrived by road about 1 p m., and firing w*b commenced shortly afterwards. The fiifles were under Lieut. Ward. The following are the scores

At the cloße of the aOO yards range tbe Rifles were leading by five pointß but they fell away and allowed their opponents to beat them upon their own wound. This ia the second time this season time that the Navals hare defeated them, it the conclusion of the match the teams sat down to a dinner prepared by Host Markham at the Crown Hotel, the Kavala being the guests of the local men. The spread was one that would have reflected credit on aoy hostelry, and was done ample justice to. " The visitors were entertained at a social gathering held in the Volunteer Hall in the evening. The social was in every way athorougb and enjoyable sue cess. Songs' were rendered by Misses Andrews and Miller. Mr J. Aitken contributed ft recitation, while Mr ityan gave a capital exhibition of dancicg the clog dance and sailor's hornpipe, and was followed by Mr W. Angland with an Irish jig. During the evening the Havals and -Rifles each went through the bayonet exercise. Mr Figoni supplied eicellent music, and Mr W. Patrick made an efficient M.C. Dancing was kept up with great spirit till about 3 a.m.
