THE ATTEMPT TO MURDER A DOCTOR.
Invercargill, June 20.
Dr Galbraith, who was shot by Maloney yesterday, is going on fairly. Twenty-six pellets were extracted from the leg to-day, and many had passed right through the thigh. Prom what transpied it seems evident that Maloney has monomania which impels him to shoot all medical men who have had anything to do with him. He kept a loaded gun in a place ,in town to “wing” Dr Cotterill, and said that he would have fired at Dr Hannan but for the fact that his groom was always with him, ! and he did not want to hurt a man who had done him no harm. There was method,in his madness, for be went up to Dr Galbraith who lay on the ground and tried to, raise him, saying he was sorry, but “had to do it,” He wished he had hit him lower down, and in all his remarks on the subject has never spoken of killing but of maiming the objects of his resentment. Maloney, is an old settler, having been on the Land Company’s Edendale estate 26 years ago.
