Ou Tuesday, 29th tilt., we held a sale, at Washdy ke yards, on account of Mr W. Sibbald, Lillybank, of : 189 horses. They were chiefly brood mares and young stock, all of which were sold, but at rather low prices* Light harness hordes ,and hacks realised good prices. t Sheep—Theo demand for freezers and young- stores still continues brisk and prices-have firmed 'since our last. ,At the Point we sold 103 > crossbred ewes in laitib at 4s 6d, 182.2-tbbth wethers '2-,'ahd 4-tooth do at. 10s. 'At Washdy ke, ,107: fat' wethers;at 9s, 6,6 fat ewes at, 5s 9d, 380 crosbred ewes at 7s, 175 do at ss, 160 withers at lis 8d, T 87 ewes and wethers at 8s 6d, 38 hoggets at7s id, 105. ewes at 5s 9d, ; 600 ; wethers at 85,6d,89 9d, and 8s 10d. ... Cattle—rAt Pleasant Point sale there were a few pens of fat cattle with
but little demand, and stores were difficult to quit. We sold cows at from 30s to £4, and nine fat steers at quotation. At Washdykethe entries of beet haye been very small, and stores . were represented by a few springers and i old cows. We disposed of 14* 'bullocks at £5 10s, and quote beef at 17a per 1001 b, springers £3 10s to U 10s, milkers up to £5. Pigs—At Pleasant Point we offered and sold 34, viz., 12 slips at 10s, 50 do at 5s 6d, 14 bacon pigs ; at 245, 3do at 27sj 3do at 455. ; ~ j
Skins —At our regular fortnightly sale on Wednesday, 28th ult., there was a full attendance of buyers, and our catalogue of over 1000 skins was disposedvof at about former rates, but butchers' crossbreds realised 3s 6d to 3s Bd, country crossbreds, Is 9d to Bs. Hides—We sold 45 up to 3|dperlb., for best.

Commercial advices fromfLondon to > May 4th show that New 1 Zealand mutton is bringing from 2s 6d to 2s 8d per 8lb; North Canterbury carcases 2s7d W2s 9d. Preserved meat are slightly improved. New Zealand 1 cheese is inquired for. There is Inone in the market.,, English hop;growers are reported to be feeling the, ejects of foreign competition very severely.
London, June 7,
The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 1,012,000 quarters, for the Continent 658,000 quarters. The American visible wheat and flour supply is 26,500,000 bushels.
June 8.
The wool lists hare closed with arrival of' 365,000 bales, including 1 61,000 from the Cape. The number of bales available is 330,000, including 40,000 from the Cape. It is expected that merinos will show an advance ipk 5 per cent.
June 10.
Consols are quoted at 100£. Owing to speculative operations the New Zealand 4 per cent Inscribed Stock is showing a strong upward tendency. The present quotation is 98. For cargoes of new crop on the passage 83s 3d is, offered, but sellers ask, (>d more. Off-coast cargoes have all been sold.
New Zealand wheat, long beried, 35s 3d ; New 'Zeaalnd" flour, patent, 22s 6d; Australian superfine, 24s ex store.
Tallow, best mutton 245, beef, 23s Sugar, German, 14s 3d; Java, 15s 6d.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Comrjah'y,* Limited, have received the following cable message from London, dated June Bth 1888 : Frozen Meat—The mutton market is; steady. New" '? Zealand mutton "weighing 60lb to 651 b per carcase is' worth ,-4id'!,iper/ lb. ;Stocks are moderate. The lamb market is unchanged. The following! rpriyate Jt&egranV, under date June Bth, was receiver} in Christchurch on Saturday eje'ning : Wheat market is dull. We think the market will continue quiet though steady. Australian cargoes are 335, which is a reduction of Is 3d per quarter from the highest point in May.
