In the Appeal Court, Wellington, on Friday argument was concluded in Regina v. Fong Chong and Clara Fong OHong. At the last Criminal Sessions the prisoners were charged with child murder. They were acquitted of the serious offence, and sentenced to two years’ hard labor for concealment of birth. ‘ Certain points were reserved. The Court affirmed conviction and the sentence will be carried out. A Tannaki appeal in a divoice suit, McLean v. Fredala, was also argued. Judgment w* unanimously given dismissing the appeal with costs; the effect is to affirm the decree of Mr Juatica Gillies granting McLeat a decree nisi for divorce with £350 and costs against Fredale. 11 At a meeting of shareholders of the Canterbury Frozen; Meat Company on Saturday, the following resolution was ■unanimously agreed lo ;—“ That with n view 'to obtaining a moderate rate of freight for a fixed perio-l, the directors be instructed to obtain guarantees from stockowners to supply stock up to 180,000 sheep per annum for freezing and shipment during the years 1889-1890, at a rate of freight not exceeding Id per lb, and that ihe directors be accordingly authorised to engage freight for up to 180,000 sheep foi -JBB9 »od 1890, at a rate not exceeding Id
