The intellectual area covered by the deceased gentleman in the selection of works comprised' in such a large Library as we have now the privilege of offering to the Public, is such as to almost deter us from naming all the fields of knowledge from which such a collection has been gathered. Agriculture in all its phases, soils, seasons, crops, drainage, sowing, breeding of horses, rearing of cattle and sheep, together with works on farm, estate, dairy, and garden management, veterinary .science, and all that appertains to requirements in the pursuit of agriculture, were gathered into this library in books by the most celebrated authors, English, French, Germanj American, and Colonial. Such a variety on this subject has rarely ever bean seen in any one library. Medical Works in every branch of the profession, comprising treatises on Diseases of the skin, joints, surgery, medicine, food’ homeopathy, infancy and childhood, pathology, human physiology, midwifery, toegther with treatises “on all the ills that flash is heir to,” characterises this section of this library. The well-known pursuits of this gentleman in the study of Science we need only toremind the public of to assure them that on Science such a collection has never before been seen in Canterbury, and will well repay a visit from the scientist, teacher, student, and lover of nature. It comprises works on astronomy, the microscope, meteorology, botany, physiology, chemistry, mineralogy, physios, etc., etc. Travels, biography, histry, poetry are very largtly represented. Schiller, Byron, Shakespeare, Burns, Goethe, the Aldine Poets, Poets of England, America, and France are all represented here. Glaisher, Stanley, Livingstone, Burkhardt, Sohlieman, Layard, Cook, Nordenschoff, Marcopolo, Races of Mankind, Countries of North and South America, Persia, India, Turkestan, Egypt, Afghanistan, Russia, Siberia, France, Germany, Italy, Arabia, South Sea Islands, Victoria, N,S. Wales, South Australia, Queensland, New Zealand, and many other countries are all represented in this choice selection. Theology, and the,study of saored subjects, are also found in a few .of the works of Fuller,. Henry Fawcett.
