THE CHINESE QUESTION.
Adelaide, June 6. . The Working Men’s Association has determined to boycott person* dealing with Chinese. ' Sydney, June 6. The Government will appeal to the Privy Council against the latest decision of the Court in the Chinese cases. June 7, . The Legislative Council last night negatived the indemnity clause in the Chinese Bill by thirty-one to five. A new clause in lieu thereof was inserted, indemnifying the Government for all acts since May Ist, provided that no persons be deprivedtof the right of.free action before the passing of the Bill. Advices from Hong-Kong state that His Excellency the Governor Sir William DesYpeux has expressed his indignation at the action of the Victorian Government in keeping Chinese out of the colony. The rumor current some days since to the effect that a number.,ot Chinese had been landed at Twofold flay proves to be unfounded. The rumor probably arose out of the fact that a number of Chinese j diggers from New South Wales crossed the barker into Victoria. , The police have been instructed to prevent such an occurrence again. ! It has been suggested that China is powerless to check the influx into Australia, as the Chinese already here came from Hong-Koug, which is a British colony. The Chinese residents in the city are considering the advisability of requesting Sir Henry Parkes to allow their being represented at the forthcoming Chinese Conference. They state that they are anxious to assist Government in preventing any great influx of their countrymen
