A petition with 4518 signatures in favor of the Shop Hours’ Bill, was sent from Auckland yesterday morning to Mr Joyce. John Power attempted to cut his threat at Parnell, Auckland, yesterday morning. Constable Hobson rushed upon him and after a tussle secured him. The knife was very blunt, and only a slight wound was inflicted. Power has been committed te the Asylum as a lunatic. John Boland, a miner, was killed on Saturday while crosscutting a tree on his claim at Still Water, Greymoulh. A portion of the tree flew up, striking , him on the head, and be was killed instantly. At Nelson the Fruit Growers’ Association have unanimously passed the following resolution :—“ That the method of dealing with the codlin moth embodied in the Bill now before the .Legislative Council will be expensive, burdensome, smd useless, as not being founded upon complete or accurate knowledge of the evil to be remedied, and not providing an effective remedy, and, therefore, it is net desirable that the Bill should pass.”
