' Sydney, May 28. The gleamer Changsha, from China, has a number of Chinese passengers for New Zealand. Three are booked for Lyttelton, forty-three for Greymoutb, five for Dunedin, and nine for Wellington. ... Arrangements are now nearly completed for bolding the Chinese Conference about’the middle of June, the general feeling of the several Governments being in favor of the conference meeting at Sydney. The actual date of meeting is not yet definitely fixed, as it is not known.when the New Zealand delegate will arrive. Wellington, May 28. Government have received a letter from a Wellington firm staling that the writers had received a. cable message from Sydney to the effect that the steamer Changsha arrived there with 60 Chinamen on board for New Zealand ports, and requesting from Government permission for the Union Compoay to send them on by the Wukatipu, The application runs counter to the understanding arrived at between; the Government and the Union Company, that provided they were allowed to get rid of the T.e Allan’s shipment of 78 Chinese, by placing them on the Wareatea, which was on>y entitled by the marine law to carry four such passengers, they would bring no more Chinaman from Australia to New Zealand ports. The matter is under consideration of Government.
