A fatal accident occurred at Hokitika on Thursday afternoon to John Foster, a carter plying between Hokitika and Ross. Deceared was descending the hill leading to D'ep Cr«"k bridge, near Ritnu, when he fell, and the wheel of the heavy loaded dray passed over his chest crushing him fe-irfu ly. He was shortly afterwards picked up and conveyed to Rimu. Medical assistance was sent for, bat he ! breathed his last ten minutes before the doctor arrived. Deceased leaves a wife and ten children.

Three Dunedin publicans have bean fined for Sinday trading. They were trapped by constables in plain clothes. At a meeting of the Forbury Park Company, Dunedin, a dividend of 4 per cent for the year was declared. A discovery ot gold is reported in a gully about midway between Blenheim and Picton.
