A severe gale has been experienced on the south coast of Ireland, and four French vessels, which were engaged in the fishing trade, were wrecked, and upwards of 100 lives lost.
The sculling race between Bnbear and Carr was won by the former by four lengths.

A cartridge factory in the vicinity of the city exploded to-day. Although there were several injured, there were not any fatalities.

Two bushrangers stuck up an hotel near Walzett to-day, and = carried away £BO in cash. The matter was reported to the police who have gone in pursuit. The first span of the ITawkesbury bridge of 416 feet in length was successfully floated into position to-day. Sailed—Te Anau, for Auckland.
The decline in the silver slocks during the past week represents over a million and a half.
Holt, the ex-manager of the Bank of New Zealand here, has applied for an injunction to restrain the trustees of bis interest in the Bosehill estate from transferring bis interest to the bank. Holt, in the capacity of manager of the bank, had advanced £IO,OOO to the estate, being himself connected as k partner. Iho Court refused to grant the application, holding that, notwithstanding the articles of corporation precluded the bank from dealing with land, the bank under the circumstances was entitled to the whole of Hell’s interest in the estate.

A valuable discovery of gold has been made 28 miles from Broken Hill, The stone is said to be very rich, and only second to that found at Broken bill. A rush baa set in. Bbisbakk, May 26.
There are no signs of rain at present, and the country is parched. Horses are dying rapidly in the Deawantina district from a disease supposed to be caused by lack of water and grass.

A goldfield has been discovered forty miles south of Gordon Yalley, where tno reals are showing. Good gold has been struck.
