AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.
’ T(i THE EDITOR. ,! ' : * j Sir,~Agaiu I ara compelled jto ask space in yourfaliiabrepaper in my own defence as a member of the AroWhenu&l * Town "Board. 1 your leading! Article of ; the : 26th inst. f ybu say tH4t the deter; niinatioh of 4he ri Arhwbeiiuh' ! Tpwri Board : bad led*ybd tdin^dire'into!the vybjole diepate, and integard to'fhe sarvoyy'ybu have been greatly.led astray. You that Mr J, Hißaker Aallc'd 1 by piiblic?advar■tisbrnent a mMirig ! 'Vf the holders of defbrlAd-payment'sections*,' Time, I sdpppsei.you think that those few near the screak would be enough,'dr all-thai |gouJ,d be * required,. ;,if they gavaV'their cjonsenC?, and that* they could take the land 'and J roads from the public. But; ycju see, it was not enough,* for my determination to have the terrace road kept as f a road and all roads kept open 1 * was the rea icadse of the new- survey being reScin^hd. Further on you say Mr'Baker injtirnated that 'eachr applicant would get* oply one section, so that those who tookjup the creek sections i could not get sections elsewhere. Now .’Mr'Editor, I suppose those worthies whom you hold, up to ; tbel: public for. sympathy i'did tell you that they had already got the other sections; and fenced and l 'cropped them, add By so doing / they have forfeited the fereck 'sections;; They did. that pf their own accord* long before the Board gave* out the advertisement; and you say they have missed tho\ opportunity of extending-their holdings. They have not. Now; Mr Editor, seven or eight of* those worthies who so gladly approved of Mr Baker’s proposals Are those who have the other sections, and hold the U'rid tfr the creek, which' had pig-pens, duck abd'fowhhouaes ll and waieir-cloa’els on, 1 and stockyards from l which jih« filth might run'into*thefereek in heavy rains and pollute thawater which* hdn'ilreds of human; beings; have to drink, Those are the people yon back up so energetically. Yon say that the Board refused; to give the . required, information, ..The, Chairman, read to. them the I second time the minutes of the special meeting which Mr Baker ca'led the Board to hold to decide which it should be, the old purvey or the ne w. The Board, decided ito have the old. and the new was rescinded in order to keep all roads open to the public. Now, Mr Editor, there are a few words true in your article, whjere you say the people gladly approved! of Mr. Baker’s proposals, I believe they did, for they laughed at mo in the courthouse. Now where is the laugh? It is turned into throats and curses, although they have their sections. But nothing will please them,—l am, etc., G. Kdgbler, BLG.C. Arowbenua, May 28, IttßS. , J
