Shocks of earthquake were left at Nelson, Blenheim, Wellington, New Plymouth, Patea, and Christchurch on, Monmorhing last. The Bov. Father Lynch, of Dnnedio : , who has been ordered rest on account of throat disease, was presented with £147 by bis congregation. ‘ j The conference of the N.Z. Medical Association opened at Auckland yesterday afternoon, JDr Dawson presiding. The '•delegates present are Drs De Zouche, Dunedin ; Fell and McKenzie, Wellington ; Thomas, Christchurch. The business includes the discussion of the proposed Medical Act. Richard Smith, a well-known'resident of Pautahanui, Wellington, was arrested there on Tuesday morning by Detective Chrystall, on a charge of having stolen several sheep off Messrs Wright and McMonamen’s station at Terawhiti. The arrest caused some excitement, as the accused has resided at Pautahanui for years, and has taken part in the public affairs of tfie district. The accused was brought up before the Justices at Pautahanui and remanded to Wellington. Bail was 'accepted in two sureties of £IOO each, the accused to enter into his own recognisance for £2OO.
