PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, TEMUKA.
j On, last Monday, evening evangelistic jservices comihphced in the Presbyterian Uhurch, Tdmuka,. and 4 have been conitinued sincS); Ds Monday evening there ;was • moderate attendance; and the nervines were\ conducted by Mr Toshack, of Timaru. On Tuesday and Wednesday evenings the services were eonducttd by the Rev. D. McLennan, of Akaroa. On -Tuesday there was aJ large attendance, iacd the preacher took for his text “Yea, He is altogether lovely," from the Song of : Solomon. The loveliness to which he alluded was that of Christ, on which the preacher d welt for about.half an hbur, expatiating chiefly on the love of Jesus. He also delivered ik'Btietti and instructive' address at the close of tße service, urging, on HV hearers the necessity of realising the.’ wondrous love of God. On Wednesday evening the attendance was not so large, a shower which fell immediately before the appointed hour for the service to commence having no doubt a great deal to da with it. The text was, “ What think' ye of Christ V’ from St. Matthew, xxii,, 42, and the preacher spoke at some length on the nature of the question involved in the text. He said it wss not what they, thought of, Christians, for there were many Christians of whom they could , not approve ; nor was it what they thought of Christianity, but it was the question of what they thought of Christ, the Son of God, who died on the orors to redeem them from sin. He dealt at considerable length on the great love Christ had shown for them, and urged them to return it by more intimate relationship with Him. At the close of the service he also gave a short explanatory address respecting the difficulties people etperiende in nhlering Christian life. It was not necessary to feel deep emotion, so long as on? founded Iris belief on (he Word of God and reposed in the love of Chriot. Services will be held this evening. The Rev., Mr McLennan is, of course, wellknown .as;a preacher in this district, and needs no. commendation. In the services hitherto conducted by ; him, he has displayed his usual energy and enthusiasm. His explanations of the tevta were vivid and eloquent, and bis instructions earnest.
