The s.s. Tongariro arrived at Wellington from London on Saturday morning. She brings 105 passengers for New Zealand, and 180 Government emigrants and 226 packages of mails. She left Plymouth on the 7th April. At a meeting of farmers held at Christchurch on Saturd»y afternoon, a committee representing the various districts of Canterbury was appointed to draw up a prospectus on a basis upon which a cooperative dairy factory should be established. An influenta! committee was appointed and it is proposed to hold meetings in each district to ascertain the amount of support a factory would be likely to receive. The Shaw Savill and Albion Steamship Company has paid a dividend of 5 per cent.
