FOOTBALL.
ENGLAND 7. TARANAKI
The football match England v. Tur-naki took place at Taranaki on Wednesday. Play during first half was fast, both teams bums evenly matched, and no score was made. The Eng ishiren were conspicuous for their excellent passing, and the local men for sure collaring. Early in the second spell Kay (Taranaki) so Ted a try but failed to convert it into a goal. One of the Englishmen got his shoulder hurt by a heavy fall. The Englishmen made a desperate rush towards the close of iho game and tried to score, but unsuccessfully, and the game finished without any further score, Taranaki being victorious by a try to nil.
THE MAORI FOOTBALLERS. The arrangements for the visit of a Maori Football team to England are now almost complete. The following have been selected, so far; Fullback Gage (Wellington); threequarter—J. Warbrick (Hawke’s Bay), W. Wynyard (North Shore), L. Lee (Eivalon) ; halves F. Warbrick (East Coast), Smiler (Hawke’s Bay), J. Taiaroa (Hawke’s Bay), W. Warbrick (Bast Coast) ; forwards Ellison (Wellington), G. Wynyard (North Shore), Nehua (Auckland), Anderson (Thames), Stewart (Thames), Webster (Westport), Arthur and Alfred Warbrick (East Coast), Karauria (Hawke’s Bay), Ta Are (Hawke’s Bay), Manaro (Auckland), Eeni (Nelson). These are certain to go, and it is possible two others will be included, making a total of 22 players, Taiaroa, Nehua, Smiler, Karauria, Ta Are, and Eni are Maoris, the rest are halfcastes. Most of the players are at present going in for bard practice.
