AUCTIONEERS' REPORT. TIMARU. AJiisarH Gracie, Maclean and Adam rujjnii. for the fortnight ending Saturday is f..110w8 :
Horses —At the Timaru Horse Bazaar on the sth inst., our entry was principally composed of a few weedy hacks and medium draughts, with but little demand for either. To-day we entered over 30 head, including a few good draughts, for which there was a fair amount of competition. At auction and privately we sold 16 head, and quote medium to good draughts at from £l2 to £2l 10s; aged and inferior, £6 to £8 10s; hacks, medium to good, £lO to £ls 10s; light and weedy, £3 to £7 10s. Sheep—At Pleasant Point ou the 7th inst., the entry of fat and stores was smaller than usual, and all the lots, with one exception, changed hands. We sold 156 2-tooth wethers at 7s 3d, 4S crossbred store ewes at 5.4 3d, 131; half bred ewes at 4s 2d, 5b ewes at 3s Id. At WashcTyke Yards on the 3rd inst., there was a full entry of fat and stores, the former consisting mostly of ewes. There was a large attendance of buyers and a considerable clearance was effected, but prices were unaltered. This week, however, there was a full entry with a decided improvement in prices a 1! round. We Bold for various owners 136 crossbred ewes (fat) at 6s sd, 53 do at 5s 9d to 5s lid, 154 do at 5s 9d, 581 halfbred ewes at 4s Ud, 60 nt 4s, 75 culls at Is Bd, 339 crossbred lambs at 5s 7d, 100 fat sheep at 7s, 300 4-tooth wethers at 6s 6d, 40 do at 6s, 130 ewes at 5s 3d to 5s 6d, 70 ewes at 3s 5d to 3s 6d, and privately during the week 780 freezers. Cattle—At Pleasant Point we sold cows at from £2 17s 6d to £3 2s 6d. At Washdyke there was no improvement noticeable in the price of beef, which we quote at 16s per lOOlbs for best. For stores there is not much demand, the only exception being steers in forward, condition suitable for finishing off on turnips. We have sold 7 steers at i>s 10s, 2 steers at £ll6s 6d, 4 steers at £4 15s, 2 cows at £5, 7 steers at £3 17s, 3 heifers; at £3 10s, 1 milker at £6 10s, 6 steers at £4, 6 cows at £4 Is, 5 heifers at £3 ss, 5 cows at £3 17s 6d, 3 bullocks at £3 12s 6d, 4 cows at £3 to £3 17s 6d, 5 cows at 20s to £2, 3 steers at £4, and (privately) 40 head prime fat bullocks.
Pigs—At Point and "WWidyke we disposed of 3 porkers at 28s, 8 weaners at b», 1 sow at 50s, 3 slips at 13s 6M, 23 porkers at 18s, and 6 slips at 9s 6d. Skins —At our regular sale on the 2nd hist. Ave catalogued and sold 1650 skins, and 3 bales station skins. There was a full attend?nee of buyers and prices were the best obtained this season, viz., for best butchers' 3s to 4s 8d; second quality, Is 8d to 2s 6d; pelts, 9d to Is 4d; 1 bale at per lb, 2 skins at do. We sold privately 4450 skins at quotations. TJJYIARU MARKETS. Wheat—Prime milling velvet and Tuscan, 2s 7d; red chaff and square head, 2s 6d; whole fowl wheat, 2a to 2s Id; broken, Is 6d. Oats —Prime heavy milling, Is to Is B|d ; good short feed, is 6|d to Is 7-|d; bright heavy danish, Is 4|d to Is fair average, Is 3£d to ls4id. "... Barley —There ia very little piime malting now offering; for this quality 8s 9d to 4s per bushel is obtainable. ENGLISH MARKETS. London, May 10. Tallow is unchanged. Hides 3|d to 3id. Kauri gum is declining. May 11. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,320,000 quarters; for the Contiuent 420,000 quarters. The American visible supply of wheat is 31,600,000 bushels. An Adelaide wheat cargo on the spot has been sold at 35s 6d; off coast cargo in iron bottoms, 33s 6d. The market is firm, an«! prices are dearer. A cargo of Australian whe;tt has been sold at 33.- 6d. Flour is quoted at 245. j
May 12. Two thousand cases of kauri gum were offered for sale to-day. Eight hundred were sold at a decline of 5s on previous quotations. There is a moderate demand for rabbit Bkins. Good qualities have realised full prices, Tin is quoted at £Bl 10s.
