An exhibition of Captain Allmnn'a patent Ufe r«ft took place at Wellington yesterday before a good number of persons. Tho r«ft is considered by nauticil men highly satisfactory. The Zealandia, with the English mail, dnted, 21st April, loft 'Frisco for Auckland on the 15th inst., two days late. The Alameda with the colonial mails to 23rd April, arrived at 'Fr eco from Auckland on the 12th innt., one day early, John Bell, an able-bodied young man, was sentenced to a month's imprisonment, with hard labor, ut Maaterton, yesterday, for slinging a bag full of quartz specimens through a tobacconist's window, because the police sergeant refused to give him n bed. A telegram to hand from Wellington yesterday says :—The Kaneiri left Wellington on Sunday night for Blenheim, but afier dodging about for twelve hours she came back to the wharf. It is doubtful if any steamers will gel out to time to-day us the fog is very thick at the Heads.
At a meeting of the Gisbome shareholders of the South Pacific Petroleum Company on Sanrdny evening, it was reßolred to wait Mr Wtaver'a return from California before making a tent of tlie oil supply. Mr Fleming, the Sydney Managing Director, was present, and stated he wai fully assured of the great v»lue of the property after having visited the well. In consequence of the Thames Drainage Board not complying wilh thfl demand of the Deep Love! Croas Gold Mining Company for the payment of the balance of the purchase money, some £BOO, duo, the big pump has censed pumping operations. Thi<3 han oatued a good deal of excitement, as unless pumping is resumed within ten days or a fortnight, fully forty miners will be thrown out of employment. The members of the Wellington Law Society and Philosophical Institute, tendered a farewell conversazione to Mr W. T. L. Travers on Saturday evening, prior to his departure for Europe. A distinguished asatinblngo, including the Governor and party from the Government House, sJso Sir Maurice O'Rorke and members of the Legislature, the Chief Justice, Sir R. Stout, Sir F. Whitaker, and nearly all the members of the Wellington bar were present.
