Hanlan spurted time affcet time, and eodenvoured to wk<k Kemp down, but the champion held hie own, and notwithstanding that he lout quite a length owing to bad Peering, was on level terms with Hanlan. The latter now showed signs of distress. Up to this time the race had been the most interesting rao<j ever rowed on ihe Parramitta. The exoitcmeni was intense, anda« the GHadearille, Hanlan attempted to close on Kemp, but the latter was too far obeuij. Passing the boat sheds, Hanlan was hopelessly in the rear, and Kemp, apparently without effort, soulled away from him and won very easily by a length. Time—2lmia 26iseo. May 6. Hanlan entered a protest against Kemp on the ground of hiving been fouled, but subsequently he withdrew it.
