GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held on Tuesday evening last. Present Messrs J. Mundell (Chairman), 3. A. Quin, W. Berry, R. Taylor, J. Williams, W. S. Maslin, and N. Dunlop, MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. COBEESPONDBNCE. Outward correspondence was read and approved of. Inward was read and dealt with as follows: — From the Inspector of Police, Oamaru, informing the Board that the constable had been instructed to assist in carrying out the by-laws. From Messrs E. Johns and Thomas Moore asking for a lamp to be placed in Macdonald Street. —'Not entertained. From Messrs R. Morrison and J. Huffey asking the Board to lower the rents upon the sections leased by them from the Board, The applicants waited upon the Board in support of their application, but the members were of opinion that the same could not be entertained. It would be a bad precedent to establish, as all the Board’s other tenants would want a reduction of their rents. The two applicants thanked the Board and withdrew. SUGGESTIONS. Mr Dunlop called the attention of the Board to the footpath in Oox Street leading to the Presbyterian Church, and expressed the opinion that it should be loweredand shingled. Mr Williams also thought that a little shingle should be placed along the side of the main road leading to the Waihi bridge, so as to make it more passable for foot passengers.

It was decided that the Overseer should report upon both places at the next meeting of the Board. ranger’s report. The ranger’s report for the month was laid upon the table. It was decided to instruct the ranger to take out summonses against those who had infringed the by-law three limes. overseer’s report. The Overseer’s report was read and dealt with as follows : “ Since your last meeting nothing of any great importance has occurred to interfere with the roads and watertables, and the contracts for cleaning them (Nos. 1 and 2) are completed and awaiting final inspection. If the Board thinks it desirable to pass the amounts for the balance upon these contracts, I will pay them over on Thursday if work is satisfactory. Mr Berkley has completed his contract and is entitled to the amount of his contract. He has also commenced the gravelling of the footpaths. In looking over the Town Districts Act (Section 38), I find that an estimate has to be prepared of the proposed expenditure of the Board during the period for which the rate is to be made and publicly notified seven days before making the rate. The time has arrived for re-letting the lamps. Receipts for the month have been—rents, £4 4s 6d; dog fees, £4; which have been paid to the credit of the Board.—l am, etc., “C. E. Shbrratt “ Overseer.”

It was decided to pass the amounts for the street contracts subject to the passing of the work by the Overseer. Decided that a special meeting of the Board be held tfiat night fortnight to make up the probable expenditure. It was resolved that the auditor be written to asking when he might be expected in Geraldine to audit the accounts. It was decided to call for tenders for the lamplighting, tenders to be in that day fortnight. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £37 7s lOd were passed for payment. The Board then resolved itself into ft LOCAL BOARD OF HEALTH. The Inspector’s report was read and one or two small matters arising out of it were dealt with. It was decided to fence in the horse cemetery in order to define it more clearly. DOMAIN BOARD. # A meeting of the Domain Board was then held. MINUTES. 1 The minutes of the previous ordinary and a special meeting were read and confirmed. THE SMALL PAEK. The Chairman reported that after the last heavy wind a number of trees were found to have been blown down in the park, and he had had them cut up; also that several trees which were dangerous had been lopped. The Chairman’s action was approved of, and it was resolved to have the timber carted up to the office, and to call for tenders for cutting the tops off some of the trees. THE LAEQ-E PAEK. Messrs Maslin and Taylor, who had peen appointed to report on the probable cost of planting a belt of trees one chain width round the large park, reported that very little timber remained upon the parts where the belt would be planted, and therefore they could not advise the planting of the belt in the face of the present financial position of the Board. It was decided to call for fresh tenders for the large bush park for seyeu years. Mr Maslin asked permission to erect a gate leading into the park rented by him.—Granted. The meeting then terminated.
