ELECTION OF SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
HILTON. The annual meeting of householders was held on Monday, 23rd April. The attendance was good, and the Chairman of the old Committee read the report and balance-sheet, which was adopted by the meeting. The election of a new committee was then proceeded with. The following gentlemen were nominated:—W. Beattie, W. Hide, •!. Leary, R. Skinner, P. Ryan, L. H. Rook, A. Toomey, H. P. Jones, and G-. Healey. A ballot was taken, which resulted in the election of Messrs J. Leary, Hide, Skinner, Beattie, Rook, Ryan, and Toomey. A meeting of the newly-elected Committee was then held, when Mr R. Skinner was re-elected Chairman.
BaNGITATA station. At the annual meeting of householders at Eangitata Station Messrs McNiven, Coulter, Lewis, Chalmers, Winter, Stauger, and Barney were elected a Committee. At a meeting of the Committee held afterwards, Mr McNiven was re-elected Chairman.
PLEASANT POINT.
At the annual meeting of householders at Pleasant Point on Monday evening' Messrs Goldstone, A cton, Greig, Lund, Lyle, and Morris, and the Lev. W. White were elected a Committee, and a resolution was passed condemning the Board of Education for dismissing the assistant mistress at the Pleasant Point school. At a meeting of the Committee the Eev. W. White was elected Chairman. BELFIELD. At the meeting of householders for the election of a new committee on Monday evening, the result was as follows:—E. Griffiths 21, W. Greenaway 18, W. Ellery 9, H. Newport 9, E. Nichols 7, J. Woulfe, W. Ford 6. At the meeting of the Committee held immediately after the householders’ meeting, Mr E. Griffiths was elected Chairman.
KAKAHU BUSH. At the householders’ meeting the the report stated there had been eleven committee meetings during the year. The improvements to the school during the year consisted of staging for concert purposes, fencing and clearing, and a swing, and Mr John Aitken ploughed up the ground round the mistress’ house free of charge. The amount received during the year was £SB 7s 4d, including £lB 5s 4d for incidentals, and a credit balance from the previous year of £9 9a. The expenditure to 31st December was £55 3s 4d, leaving a credit balance of *3 4s. Two concerts netted £3 15s, The school passed a most successful examination, Mr Gow, the inspector, expressing himself highly satisfied. This should be very pleasing to all householders considering the small attendance, sickness, etc., and Miss M’Kay’s absence from the school through severe illness. The attends nce'was very good just now. The Committee hoped the > parents .' and guardians would make it a point to f ead the children to school regularly
in fine weather, as the Government only paid on the strict average. The school buildings were in good repair, but want a coat of paint. The following were elected a new committee : W. Dunford, C. Johnson, W. Walker, A. Samuelson, W. McLeod, J. Mailer, and S. E, Graham. Mr Graham was re-elected Chairman,
