CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS. At the Addington yards on Wednesday the attspdftnpe of buyers and other* was about an average oho, Rat Cattle.—i heavy entry was on oner. Values did not improve and many of the lots pasted out unsold. Sales were made as follows Prime heavy weight steers at from £6 10a to £8 10s, medium weights from from £2l7* 61 to £5 ss, being at from 15s to I7s 6d per 1001 b, according to quality. Fat Sheep.—A fairly numerous entry, on the whole values gave way somewhat compared with late markets. Crossbred wethers of tbe primest quality sold at from 9s 6d to 12s per head, lighter sorts from 7* 6d upward*; merino ewes sold up to 0s 3d | ewes pf mixed ages at from 5s Id to Ts 6d ; merino wethers sold at from 3s lOd to 5t 7d ; and from lsd to ifd per lb according to quality, may be recorded as ruling valuee. Pigs.—A full market, values firm; Baooners sold at from 35s to 46s per head, porkers from 18s to 30s, *»y fully 3J:I per lb, while the demand for good stores seems unaltered. PRODUCE MARKETS. In prime Butuplce very little business has been done. The teno of the
market i« decidedly weaker. We quote prime milling velvet and tuscan, 3a to 3j 2d } medium to good (nominal), 2s 8d to 2a lid ; soft and inferior, if whole, 2a to 2s 6d ; broken, very little sale (ex store, sacks weighed in) ; terms. _ . , Oats—Demand dull. We quote from actual sales: Prime milling, Is BJd to Is 9d ; short bright feed, Is 8d to Is Bjfd; medium, Is 6fcd to la 7id (ex store, sacks weighed in) ; net cash. Barley—A good business could be dono in this cereal, but deliveries continue small. We quote prime malting, 4i 6d to 4s 7d ; medium, 4s 3d to 4s 5d (sacks extra); feed and milling, 2s 3d to 4s (woke weighed in), terms. Potatoes—Best Northern, 60s to 555; Southern, difficult to quit at 40a. Chaff—Best heavy, well out, 50s to 55s (aaoks returnable)} straw, 40s. Carrots, 40i. Straw—Oaten and wheaten, 40j. Hay-Oaten, 60s j olover and ryegrass, 60a. Butter—Prime salt is worth 6*d (kegs extra) ; fresh, storekeepers’ lota, 6£d to 7*d. Cheese—Prime Akaroa, 4d j loaves, 4fcd. Honey—Bun, BJd in casks; best extracted, 4sd in tins. . Grass Seeds—Prices are nominal. Byegrass, 2b to 3s for machine dressed; cocksfoot, 3id to 3id, Shoepskins-On Monday country dry crossbreds, inferior to medium, brought Is 3d to 3a 6d j do do merino, Is to 8a 9d ; medium to fulbwoolled crossbreds, 3s 9d to 6s ; do do merino, 8s to 4s 6d j dry pelts, 2d to Is; butchers’ green crossbreds, beat 3s 6d to 2a 9d ; medium to inferior, 2s 6d to 2s; green merinos, good to best, Is XOd to 2s 2d ; inferior, Is 3d to Is 6d j lambskins, 2a 6d to 3a 6d. , . , Hides—Stocks in brokers’ hands are almost nil, and prices are firm. Tallow— lnferior and mixed, 12s to 16s ; medium to good, 15s 6d to 171; prime mutton, 181 to 20s; rough fat, inferior, 7s fid to 8b 6d ; medium to good, 9s to 10j 6d; best mutton caul, lls to 13a per cwt, DUNEDIN STOCK MABKETS. At the Burnside Yards on Wednesday the following business was transacted : Wit Oattlo.—23o head yarded | fully twothirds of this number were of medium and inferior quality. Beet bullocks brought from £7 to £9 10«; medium, £5 to £6 10j j light and inferior, £3 to £4los; best cows, from £6 to £7 2s 6d j medium, £3 10a to £4los j inferior, £1 to £2 10s. Eat Sheep.—336s penned, inclusive of 764 merinos. Prices ruled a shade below those current a week ago. Prime crossbred wethers brought from 8j 6d to 9s 6d | medium, 7i 6d to 8b ; light 6s to 7s ; prime crossbred ewes, from 8s 6d to 9s 6d (one special pen a shade move); medium, 7s 31 to 8j 3d ; light 5b 6:1 to 6s 6d j merino wethers, 4s 9d to 5i 4d; merino ewes, 3s to 3s 6d.—Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. sold for Mr A. Grant (Wiliowbank), 75 crossbred ewes from 6s 6d to 7s 3d. , , Pat Lambs.—Only 164 penned. Demand good | ptioes ranged from 4a 6d to 7s 3d. Pigs.—l 26 penned, chiefly bacon pigs of suitable weights and porkers, both of goed quality. Per these bidding was very keen, and an advance of fully 5s a head may bo reported this week. Prime bacon pigs brought from 46j to 59j ; porkers from 30a to 33s 6d j auokor®, 5s 6d to 14s, AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Sydney. April 19. Butter, imported, lOd to lid. Cheese, 4d j loaf siza, sd. Bacon, 9d to 9|d. Oats, on the spot, 2s 4d. Maize, 2s 7d. Bran, 9d ; pollard, 9id. There are no New Zealand potatoes in the market. The cargoes to arrive next week are expected _ to realise about 565. Onions. 655. Chick wheat, 2i 9i ; milling sorts, 3a 3d to 33 7d. Barley (Cape), 3s. New Zealand bams, Is Id. Melbourne, April 26. Wheat, medium, 3s 4£d j prime do, 3i 6d, Flour, stone-made, £7tXos; roller do, £8 10s. Oars, tartarian, 2s 7d; danish, 2i 9d } seed, 2s 9id. Maize, 3i 6d. Bran lid. Sugar is dull. Adelaide, April 26. Flour is dull. Boiler made £8 5s to £8 10s 5 Stone made £7 sa. Bran, 10|rd; pollard, lOd. Oats, 2s 6d. ENGLISH MABKETS. London, April 25. An Australian wheat cargo of 4000 quarters, April shipment, has been sold at 33s 7id j 9000 quarters of March shipment, and 8000 of May, have been disposed of at 33a 3d, Leather is quoted from 10 Jd to lid. Pig iron, 38s 9d. At the wool sales to-day, 12,600 bales were offered. Since the opening of the series 270,000 bales have been catalogued of which number 14,000 have been withdrawn. Prices wore unchanged. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have received«the following cable message from London, dated April 24th 1888 : Wool —The sake progress firmly. For superior greasy and coarse crossbred the market ia firmer j other descriptions are unchanged, The total quantity catalogued to date is 192,000 bales, and the total withdrawn i» 13,000 bales. Wheat—Market steady. New Zealand wheats (irorage and long berried) are worth 33j and 34s 3d per 496ib. Quotation for Now Zealand wheat, new crop, f.a.q., to aniy;-, is nominally worth 31s per 4801 b. New Zealand Hemp-Medium is worth £2710s per ton.
