TIMARU MARKETS. Wheat —Prime velvet and tuscan, 2s 6d to 2s 7d; red chaff, 2a 4d to 2s sd. Oats—Long feed, Is 2d to Is 4d; short feed, Is 4d to Is 6|d. Barley—Malting, 3s 9d to 4s. AUCTIONEERS' REPORT. TIMARU, Messrs Gracie, Maclean and Adam report for the fortnight ending Saturday as follows; Horses—On the sth inst. our entry at the Timaru Horse Bazaar was a small one, and but few sales were effected. To-day there was a slight improvement in the demand for good farm horses, but aged and inferior are quite unsaleable. There is an enquiry for good sound light harness horses, and anything with strength and breeding meets a good market. We quote medium to good draughts at from £ls to £22 10s, aged and inferior as stated, good hacks up to £ls. Sheep—At Pleasant Point on the 3rd inst., the entry was the largest for many n-onths past, and nearly all the lots changed hands. We sold for various owners—los fat ewes 6s 4d, 200 crossbred stores 3s Id, 122 do at 4s 9d; 106 at 2s 9d, 103 lambs at 3s Bd, 1049 merino ewes at 2s 6d ; 410 do at lid, 261 do at 7d, 14 rams at from Ito guineas,—At Washdyke on the sth we sold 72 fat ewes at 6a to 6s sd, 51 do at 5s 5d to 5s lOd, 375 cull crossbreds at 2s 9d to 2s lid, 42 fat sheep at 5s lid. —At Makikihi, on the 9th, we sold all our entry, viz., 44 fat wethers at 7s lid, 56 do at 6s sd, 41 ewes at ss, 26 do at 5s 4d, 696 merino ewes at Is sd, 40 lambs at 5s 2d, 20 do at 3s Bd, 25 rams up to 21s. —At Winchester, on the 10th, our sales were 150 halfbred 2-tooth ewes at 6s 9d, 10 do. at 5s Bd, 333 lambs at 3s 2d, and 54 ewes at 4s.—At Washdyke, on Thursday last, there was a. big entry and a large turn over, but prices for stores were a shade lower than the preceding sale. We sold 139 lambs at 3s 6d, 150 crossbred ewes at 4s 9d, 66 do at 5s Bd, 60 do at 6s lOd, 65 at 6s 2d, 126 culls at 2s 7d, 77 do at 3s 4d, 700 lambs at from 3s, 3s 6d, to 4s 6d, 400 merino ewes at from Is to Is 4d. Privately we sold 3000 merino ewes, 800 crossbreds, and 500 lambs at fair values.
Cattle—At the various sales during tlie fortnight entries were above the average, and sales difficult to effect of both fat and stores. At auction and privately we sold 64 head fat cattle at equal to 16a per lOOlbs, and about the same number of stores at—for calves 7s to 12s, yearlings, 15s to 17s 6d, dry cows 25s to £3, 2 to 3-year-old steers 50s to 655, milkers up to £5 10s.
Pigs—There are very few wellgrown stores offering; we sold weaners at 6s to 10s, slips 15s. Skins—At our regular sale on W ednesday we catalogued over 1000, and sold pelts at 4d to Bd, butchers’ skins Is 6d, Is lOd, to 2s 6d, boilers 8d to lOd, for merinos and crossbreds up to 2s.
Hides—We have sold several lines at 3d to 3£d per lb, ENGLISH MARKETS. London, April 12. Four thousand five hundred quarters of Australian March shipments of wheat have been sold at 33s 3d; two parcels of April shipments have been sold at 325. Fifteen hundred bags of Queensland sugar have been sold at from 12s to 13s 3d, The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,300,000 quarters. An of£-eoast cargo of wheat has been sold at 33s 7id. Kartell's and Heunessy’s brandy is quoted at 17s. At the wool sales merinos are hardening in price; faulty sorts and scoured are id lower. There is a good demand for crossbreds. April 13. Tallow has advanced 6d. 110,000 casks are in stock at present. The stock of copper is 53,000 tons. At the wool sales to-day 12,000 bales were disposed of. April 14s. Queensland sugar is realising 15s, grayish 12s, yellow 13s.
