AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Arowhenua Town Board was held last evening. Present—Messrs E. Lee (Chairman), Proudlock, Story, and Edgeler. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. COBEESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows: From the agent of the National Insurance Company, notifying the Board that the premium on their policy of insurance would fall due on April 25th.—The Clerk vas instructed to attend to the same. From Mrs* Jessie Dunne, asking that the name of Mr William Wills be substituted for her own on the rate roll in respect of section 48, Arowhenua township.—Mr Wills wrote consenting to same, and the matter was left to the Clerk. From the Secretary of the Temuka Fire Brigade, drawing attention to the want of wells in Wilkin Street in the event of a fire breaking out, also asiring the Board if thoy were willing to grant an annual subscription fco the Brigade. The letter pointed out that it pi esent all expenses had to be paid mt of the Brigade's revenue, which

is very small.—The Clerk was requested to express the Board's willingness to pay working expenses in case of a fire. OVERSEER'S KirORX. The Overseer's report for the month w a read as follows: " Qentlbmem",—•l have the pleasure to report that during the past month thu only work executed has been the cV,aning of the Arowhenua creek. F r this work eight tenders were rec.ived, and that of John Carter at niuepence per chain accepted. The roads are all in fairly good order, and tli ore are no works of absolute necessity required. If it is the intention of the Board to proceed with shingling Wilkin or Denmark Streets it would be well to have the approach to the gravel pit in Alexander Street r» stalled while the weather is dry. The gravel pit in Maude Street might al.-o be fenced with advantage. The total amount of rates collected is £32 9s id, against £3l 3s Id last season. The outstanding rates amount to £lO 19s 7d. One of the Board's cottages is now vacant. There are two applications for it.—l am, etc., "Alfd. W. G-ami." He was instructed to invite tenders for shingling a portion of Wilkin Street and the approach to the gravel reserve in Alexandra Street. Tenders to be in by next Board day. The Clerk was authorised to arrange for a transfer of lease of reserve 1701. ACCOUNTS. One account of the amount of £2 10a was passed for payment. The meeting then terminated.
