MEETINGS OF CREDITORS.

Rk George Hobbs,

An adjourned meeting of George Hobbs’s creditors was held held last Tuesday in the Courthouse, Temuka. Mr W. C. Beswick, Deputy Assignee, presided. George Hobbs, sworn, said : I had four or five horses, but never more than two at the same time. I sold Barr a horse, I think 1 got £2 and another horse for it. The other horse was sold for £6 by Mr Thruston. I have received £25 for horses, less £l2 paid to Siegert. At the time of my bankruptcy I owed Mr Hayhurst £7 10s. The section cost £lO 10s, and the shed on it cost £7 10s. I had ducks, but I ale them before the meeting of creditors. (Laughter.) I sold apples to Messrs Washington, Olaridge, and Egan, There is a cow belonging to my wife,

Mr Ackroyd proposed—“ That the Deputy Assignee realise on the estate in the manner he deems beat.”

Mr Smith seconded, and it was carried. It was resolved—“ That the Deputy Assignee be allowed the necsssary expenses for clerical work.” The meeting then adjourned. Re Michael Riordan.

A meeting of the creditors of Miohael Riordaa was held last Tuesday afternoon io the R.M. Courthouse, Temuka. Mr W. C. Beswick, Deputy Assignee, presided. There were three creditors present. Mr Lynch appeared for the bankrupt.

Michael Riordan, sworn, stated : The cause of my bankruptcy was a bad crop of wheat, together with bad luck with cattle, some of them dying. In one paddock I got only 16 bushels to the uore, and the best of it 1 bad to sell for 2s a bushel. Twenty-six bushels to the acre was produced in another little paddock, and sold for 2s a bushel. The whole sum realised was £37. There was a lien over that and the cattle, and they were sold for the benefit of the lienee. Messrs Mundell and Co. threatened to sue mo for a balance of £9 J6s, and, having no means to pay, I had to file. There is some hay and straw on the ground, but rent is due to the landlord, and he will take that. The sniff on the ground is worth about £5 or £6. There is a pig and some fowls, worth about £l. This was all 1 had.

No resolution was passed, and the meet* ing adjourned.
