Some excitement has been caused by the announcement that a case of smallpox had broken out near the city. It appears that a two-year-old child of Mr Allen Lakeman, M.L.A. for Belronald, who resides at Manly, nine miles north of here, has been attacked with the dreadful disease. The case was reported on Saturday' night, and steps were at once taken to have the family removed into quarantine and the house disinfected.
