AUCTIONEERS' REPORT.
TIMARU. Mr B. R, Guinness (for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports for the week ending Saturday, March 24th, as follows ;
(Jattle—At the Washdyke Yards large entries of prime beef have been brought forward, for which there is a poor demand, and the few that do change hands bring ruinous prices lo the producer. The district is full of fat cattle, so we do not sen much hope of an improvement in prices for a considerable time lo come. Stores are also plentiful and very unsaleable at present. Sheep—At the annual ram fair, held at the VVashdyke Yards on the 15th inst., there was a good entry of various breads, but the demand wis only limited, and prices not up to expectations, consequently a largo number wore withdrawn. We sold several lets at current rates. There was a large, number of fat and store sheep of all classes penned. Our eutry for the day was 3911, of which w» sold the following :—166 halfbred ewes at 4s lid, 146 old merino wethers at 2s, 188 crossbred full-mouthed ewes at 4s 6d, 210 halfbred 2-tooth ewes at 6sYd, 340 crossbred lambs at 3a 41, 86® 2-toolh halfbreda (small) at ss. Wool—We held our laßfc sale of the season on Wednesday, the 21st inst. Prices ware equal to lust sale. M«rino brought 6£d to 7d ;do pieces, 4£d to do locks, 3d to 3^l; crossbred, 6J to 6|d per lb. Out of the 46 bales catalogued 44 were sold.
Sheepskins—At the usual fortnightly sale on Wednesday biddings were fairly spirited, reaultiog in a clearance of every lot at the followiog prices : Best butchers' crossbreds, 2s to 2d 4J ; second quality, Is 6d lo Is lOd; lambskins, la lOd to 2s ; dry country lots brought 5d to 5JI per ib. Hides—Th« market is somewhat weaker aad prices have receded a little. W» have disposed of all on hand at about late quotations.
AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. Melbourne. March 23. Wheat, prime, 3s 61 ; flour is quiet ; roller-mads fl°ur, £9 10s ; oats, seeii, 3s; maizu, 3s 5d ; bran, 9§d. Sales of New Zaaland oats have been effaced at 2s 9£d. Adelaide, March 23. Wheat is quiet at 3s 3d; outports, 2s lid ; floor is unchanged ; bran, 8d j •ate, 2* 9d ; barley, 5s to 5s 6d.
ENGLISH MARKETS. LondoNj March 22. Chilian copper is quoted £BO sa. The quantity of wheat ana fli>ur afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,980,000 quarters, and for the Continent 220,000 quarters. The Orizaba's frozan meat is selling at 3|d per lb. JPhereare 40,000 bales forwarded for the next wool sales, Antwerp stocks are 10,000 bales below laet year's stocks. Business in London is extremely quiet. Wool eteaxners must arrive off the British coast Dot later than September Ist to ensure tha inclusion of their cargoes in the September series. The American visibe supply of wheat i 8 estimate} at 36,250,000 bushels. March 24. Three hundred and eighty tlioH3«nd bales of wool have arrived to dale. The market is dull.
