It appears that a majority of the jury at the inqueßt on the body of Connell, the victim of tbe Tuapeka Mouth Tragedy were in favor ot returning a verdict of murder. At first only two favored a verdict of man* slaughter against. Mcßory, but the minority signified their intention of hojding out all night rather than give in, and so the majority were gradually talked over. The men in favor of a verdict of manslaughter succeeded in converting one of the other side to their views and for a considerable time the forces wire equal. Then another convert was made, and subsequently still another, but'the last man held out stubbornly for some time. At length he agreed to a verdict of manslaugter. It remains to be seen whether the prisoner will not be charged with murder at Supreme Courts
