The Timaru Borough Council applied for a lease of about half‘an-aore of the foreshore for asphalt works. .After a discussion the matter waa referred to the standing committee, to report at next meeting. The Levels Road Board and Timaru Sea Bathing Company wrote complaining of damage done to their properties by the contractors for the W»i-iti Tramway .—Referred ■•““to the contractors. *’ The Engineer's report was read. Hr recommended the lifting of some concrete block* on the southern side of the breakwater In order to promote the inshore current.The Chairman said the subject of placing Ihesa blocks down originally was to prevent the breakwater being undermined by the saa. The effect was that the inshore current had been interfered with, and there wait no doubt that the shingle was increasing in eonseqntnce.—Consideration of this matter was deferred until next meeting. The Harbor Master reported the arrival of II (teamen and 4 selling vessel! of an aggregate tonnage of 9838 tons, and of the departure of 21 steamers end-4 Bailing vessels, with a total registered tonnage of 10,455 tons, during the month of February, 1888. The weather was, on. the whole, fair for the month. The steamer Elderalie arrived in harbor on Sunday, 19th February, was, berthed, took in cargo, and sailed out on the' 10th. The weather was favorable, and every, thing was done t”' give her quick despatch; Ha recommended that a spy glass be procure! for the captain of the Titan, and a smell ensign for use on the flagstaff.—The report was adopted. The tender of Messrs Priest and Holdgate for ironmongery for the year was accepted. The question of preparing and sending a plan of the harbored‘ the’ Melbourne Bxhibi- - tion waa nob favorably entartained. Accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting then adjourned.
