INTERPROVINCIAL NEWS.
A lad named Wallers, 9 or 10 years of age, was run over by a tramcar in Wellington on Tuesday, and is not expected to recover.
William Ramsay, late lessee of the Phoenix Brewery, Blenheim, which was recently burned down under suspicious circumstances, has been committed for trial at the Supreme Court on a charge of forgery by altering a cheque from £1 15s to £2 15s.
Mr Mitchelson, and Mr T. W. Hislop arrived at Christchurch from Wellington on Tuesday. In the afternoon a deputation from the Knights of Labour interviewed Mr Mitchelson, and asked him if Government would reconsider their determination to finish their fortifications at Lyttelton by prison labour, and if, in the event of Government refusing to do so, they would find remunerative and suitable employment near Christchurch for the unemployed. Mr Mitchelson promised to telegraph to the Minister of Defence on the first question, and to make enquiry as to what works were suitable works for the employed. Government were determined to undertake no relief works in the vicinity of towns. A. Dornwall, a Dunedin butcher, intends bringing libel actions against a number of other butchers. A writ claiming £IOOO damages has been already served on one of them.
