B. Bartelot’s motion for a Royal Commission to enquire into the military requirements of the Empire, denounced the extravagance and inefficiency of the War Office. The Right Hon. Mr Stanhope, Secretary of State for War, made a vigorous reply in the defence of bis department, but consented to the appointment of a commission of limited enquiry into the organisation of the forces.
